Mielie Meal or pap is a classic South African staple food in South Africa. It is very popular at braais served with a rich tomato relish and South Africa's favourite, yummy boerewors.Mielie meal is very similiar to the well known grain, polenta but it is white in colour. In this recipe the mielie meal or pap is cooked quite stiff, which is perfect for mopping up the gravy and the meat juices. Enjoy at your next braai or barbeque!Boerewors is made from coarsely minced beef (sometimes combined with minced pork or lamb) and spices (usually toasted coriander seed, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves and allspice) is derived from the Afrikaans words Boer (farmer) and Wors ((sausage). Like many other forms of sausage, boerewors contains a high proportion of fat, and is preserved with salt and vinegar, and packed in sausage casings. The Chunky Onion and Tomato Relish made with fresh or canned tomatoes and green chillies is a beautifully flavourful yet versatile tomato sauce that is an absolute must have to serve with the pap.
